You say that you want to hear what the community has to say about the possibility of building a new senior center, so I go in and complete the survey. I was astonished at how incredibly brief it was and that there was no place in the survey where one could freely express their thoughts. Just a few lame questions and that's it. Who designed it? What did it take -- 5 minutes? The survey itself itself is an absolute joke and embarrassment to the intelligence of the community. Why don't you put together a real survey asking for real opinions and come back to us with real data you can actually use. I had no opportunity to say what I really wanted to say. We have a perfectly good, functional center for our seniors right now. Money should have been put into upgrading it years ago. Now you want to go ahead and close it with no promise as to when any new center will be ready. Yes, of course a new facility would be great, but the location puts it on one end of the township that could be 20 minutes away from residents living in say Hopewell boro. At least the one on Reading Street is a little closer to the center of Hopewell Valley. The proposed location is closer for Ewing residents if anything. There is no way the existing center should be closed until this issue is resolved.
Thank you for your comments and questions on Have Your Say Hopewell. We are at the very early stages in the planning process, and are seeking to understand the broad needs and desires of the community, including whether residents want a new senior and/or community center. We are exploring multiple locations at this time and have sought feedback on this question in our survey and through this site.
Once we have the initial feedback from this survey, we intend to do more in-depth analysis and to address many of the questions you have already outlined for us. We will keep you and the community updated as we do so.
Several other communities have designed and constructed community aquatic facilities. Are you looking to identify models that Hopewell can follow? Other communities can share lessons learned and what fee structures work well to balance finances.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on a new senior and/or community center for Hopewell Valley, and we would value your continued input going forward.
Should the community be interested in a pool, we will be certain to look at the experiences of these other communities.
I completed the survey, and after some thought have an additional comment. If a pool were to be built I would recommend a regulation sized competition pool. There are many individuals as well as swim teams in our community that could utilize this asset. As an adult who still competes I know I would appreciate a local pool to train in. Perhaps the high school swim coaches would have some valuable input as to the size and specifics.
This is the type of feedback
that is so important. Should there be an interest in a pool, we plan to consult with the Board of Education and others on
this matter once the survey results are in.
Dear Paul, Thanks for this effort. I hope Pennington Boro officials are participating actively in this endeavor.
Thanks Marjorie. We will make sure both Pennington and Hopewell Boro administrators are aware of this survey.
Would be interested in serving on the planning committee.
Thank you participating in the survey! We will be back in touch with you once the survey is closed. Thanks again for reaching out!
To Whom It May Concern,
I hope to not be living in Hopewell Township or the State of New Jersey, for that matter, for my retirement. While it is a beautiful area and I have been a resident for almost 25 years, I find the high cost of living and taxes prohibitive. My husband and I will seek to retire to a state that does not tax income. From what I have read about this subject and the mass exodus of families to other states, New Jersey State and Township officisal would do well to consider the burden they place on residents. Elected officials would do well to spend tax monies wisely, responsibly and equitably. Though my husband and I have above average incomes when you consider the cost and sacrifice of putting children through college and the amount of taxes residents are forced to pay, an "above average" income is no longer sufficient. It is very sad to see that many lifetime residents can no longer afford to reside in New Jersey.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on a new senior and/or community center for Hopewell Valley.
We share your concerns about keeping Hopewell Township affordable. We have fought hard to ensure Hopewell Township had the lowest tax rate in Mercer County, but agree there is more we can and should do.
Thanks again for reaching out and participating in this survey.
I like Barbara's idea of a broader center (more community than simply senior).
Thank you for taking our survey. We will make sure to include your suggestion as we work towards next steps. Please keep your ideas coming!
Not a question - just an idea.
A place that might be of interest to you as far as an ideal Senior & community center would be - in my humble opinion - the Ocean City NJ community Center which also includes the Aquatic & Fitness ctr.
It has many activities for seniors - including a lunch program, games, transportation - just too numerous to mention.

We will look at the Ocean County NJ facility, as we
move forward, and would value your continued input going forward.
I have several questions! (1) Where will the Center be located? (2) How much will it cost to build, and where will the funding come from? (3) How will it be staffed, and where will the funding come from? (4) Has Hopewell approached any private entities to develop such a Center? If yes, what were their responses? If not, why not? (5) What is the anticipated demand for this Center, and what is the basis of the expectation? Thank you!

We are looking at a number of successful public and private models across NJ
and PA to inform this work.
I would like a community center for everyone but nothing separate for people by age. How about generational integration?
Thank you for taking our survey. We will make
sure to include your suggestion as we work towards next steps. Are there
specific ways you'd like to see generational integration?
